Troubleshooting
Recover from missing sources, permission errors, interrupted captures, website failures, and missing exports.
Updated November 2, 2026
Each section below starts from a symptom and lists the checks in order. Read the message Temposhot shows first. Temposhot keeps partial frames whenever it can, so open the latest session in Capture History before starting a new run.
The screen or window list is empty
The source picker needs the Screen Recording permission to list screens and windows.
Check the permission
Open macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and make sure Temposhot is turned on. The Permissions Required dialog in Temposhot has an Open System Settings button for this.
Refresh the status
Return to Temposhot and select Refresh Status in the permission dialog.
Reload the sources
Reopen the source picker and select its refresh button. If an error appears, select Retry.
Restart the app
If the list is still empty, quit Temposhot and open it again. macOS can require a restart of the app before a new Screen Recording permission takes effect.
Automatic keypress does not work
- Confirm that Temposhot has the Accessibility permission. The permission dialog shows "Granted" next to each permission that is on.
- Clear the Key press field and record the key again.
- Make sure the target window can take focus. If Temposhot cannot focus it after the countdown, it shows "Temposhot couldn't focus the selected window. Click the target window to continue." Click the target window.
A shortcut that macOS or another app has claimed globally may not reach the target window. Choose a simpler key, such as Right Arrow, when possible.
A capture is black or blank
Check the Screen Recording permission, then choose the source again. If a display was connected, disconnected, or changed resolution or scaling, follow the Display Configuration Changed prompt described below.
Protected content can also produce black frames. Temposhot cannot capture or bypass DRM or apps that block screen capture.
The Mac locked or went to sleep
When macOS locks or sleeps, Auto Capture pauses the capture stream. After unlock or wake, Temposhot restores the stream and resumes a run that was capturing before the interruption.
A run that you paused yourself stays paused. If recovery fails, Temposhot shows "Couldn't restore the capture stream after unlock." Select Resume capture to try again.
The display configuration changed
For a whole-screen source, Temposhot can switch to another available display and continue. For a Custom Area, or a source that no longer exists, the Display Configuration Changed dialog appears.
- Choose a display and select Continue with Selected Display to keep capturing.
- Select Stop Capture when the original area cannot be reproduced on any display.
Capture stopped unexpectedly
If at least 1 frame was saved, Temposhot keeps the partial result and finalizes the session. Open it from Capture History before starting another run.
If Auto Capture fails before the first frame, Temposhot removes the empty session, so no empty entry is added to Capture History.
Action Capture does not record clicks
- Confirm that both Screen Recording and Accessibility show "Granted".
- Check that the floating toolbar shows Capturing, not Paused. Select Resume capture if needed.
- With Specific Window or Capture Area, click inside the selected target, or turn on Capture outside clicks in Configure Action Capture.
- Check the Mouse click capture mode. A mode that requires or skips a modifier key changes which clicks are saved.
When a run stops at the free step limit, the steps saved so far remain. A Temposhot Pro license lets Action Capture continue past that limit.
Website Capture does not start
- Make sure every row contains a valid URL. Only HTTP and HTTPS addresses are accepted, and
https://is added to a bare domain. - Lower Concurrent browsers under Run Settings (1 to 10, default 4) if the Mac is short on memory.
- For a row in Capture failed or Capture cancelled, use Retry once it becomes available.
Cookie banner handling is best effort. A custom consent dialog may not be handled by Reject banners, Accept minimal or Hide only.
Export actions are unavailable or files are missing
- Select at least 1 frame. Export buttons stay disabled with no selection.
- Check Settings > General > Export path, then select Open Export Folder to see where files went.
- Finish or stop an active capture. Preview, export and deletion of saved sessions are locked while a capture runs.
In the results pane, Images opens the PNG and JPG choices. ZIP, PDF and MP4 have their own buttons, and GIF and WebP are in Export settings….
A Document does not save or export
- Wait until the editor header shows Saved before leaving. If Save failed stays, keep Temposhot open, free some disk space and make the change again.
- A Document with no pages cannot be exported. Add at least 1 page.
- Use More export formats to choose PDF, PNG, JPG, WebP or ZIP.
- If a source image was missing during import, add the image or the Capture History frames again. After a successful import, the Document keeps its own copies.
A license needs verification
Open Settings > License and select Restore license. Use Manage my license when the order, the key or a device activation needs attention.
Checkout opens at launch. Until then, this build shows "License verification is not available in this build." Email support@temposhot.com for help with a license.
Temposhot asks before quitting
Quitting while a capture is running opens the Capture in progress dialog.
- Keep Capturing closes the dialog and the run continues.
- Quit Temposhot stops the capture and quits the app. Frames already saved stay available in Capture History.
Send feedback
Temposhot has no in-app feedback form. Contact support by email instead.
