How to turn screenshots into a searchable PDF
Add screenshots
Drop up to 80 PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC images. Each image becomes one page, in the order shown.
Choose the text language
Select up to 3 of the 13 languages. Fewer languages make recognition faster.
Pick a page size
Fit keeps each page the size of its image. A4 and US Letter place the image on a standard page.
Create the PDF
Select Download searchable PDF. The first run downloads the OCR engine and language data, which takes a few seconds.
What makes a PDF searchable?
A screenshot in a PDF is a picture. A viewer cannot find words in it because the file holds pixels, not characters.
This tool reads the text in each image with OCR (optical character recognition). It then places each recognized word as invisible text at the same position over the image. The page looks unchanged, and search, selection and copy use the invisible text layer.
Latin text uses the built-in Helvetica font. Other scripts, such as Korean, Japanese or Cyrillic, embed a subset of Noto Sans KR so the characters can be copied correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Which languages can it read?
English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Up to 3 can be active at once.
Are my screenshots uploaded?
No. Recognition runs in your browser. Only the OCR engine and language data are downloaded from a CDN on first use; your images stay on your device.
Why does the first run take longer?
The OCR engine and the language data are several MB. The browser caches them, so later runs start faster.
Can I get only the text?
Yes. Select Extract text only to read the text without building a PDF, then copy it or save it as a .txt file.
How accurate is the recognition?
Sharp screenshots of printed text read well. Small, blurred or stylized text and handwriting produce more errors. Choosing the right language helps.
