Documents library

Create, open, rename, export, select, and delete editable screenshot Documents.

Updated November 2, 2026

Documents holds editable guides built from screenshots, separate from the raw sessions in Capture History. Open it from Documents under Workspace in the sidebar or press Command+4.

Create a Document

Select New Document to create an empty Document and open it in the editor. The menu next to the button, labelled Create Document from, starts a Document from existing material instead:

Menu itemResult
Images…Opens a Finder dialog to import local image files
Capture History…Opens a picker for saved sessions and their frames
New capture…Starts Auto Capture, Website Capture or Action Capture

When a capture is started from New capture…, the finished frames are sent to the new Document when the run ends.

  1. Open Documents

Press Command+4 or select Documents in the sidebar.

  2. Choose a starting point

Select New Document for an empty Document, or open the menu next to it and choose Images…, Capture History… or New capture….

  3. Edit the pages

The Document opens in the editor. Add titles, descriptions, annotations and framing there.

Use the library table

Each row shows a preview, the title, the page count, the time it was last updated and the time it was created. Type into Search documents to filter the table.

Right-click a row, or use its Document actions menu, to reach these commands:

  • Open opens the Document in the editor.
  • Rename… changes the title.
  • Export PDF… exports the Document as a PDF.
  • Delete removes the Document.

Work with several Documents

Tick the checkbox on each row you want to include. A selection bar shows the number of selected Documents and three actions: Export PDF for a batch export, Delete, and Clear to drop the selection.

Export PDF is enabled when at least one selected Document has pages. Empty Documents cannot be exported.

Understand ownership

A Document stores its own copies of every image it uses. Deleting a Document removes those copies only.

Next: Add and organize Document pages.
