What happens when you convert HEIC to PDF?

Browsers cannot display HEIC files directly. The tool decodes each HEIC photo on your device with a WebAssembly decoder, which loads the first time a HEIC file is added.

Each decoded photo is drawn on a white background and embedded in the PDF as a lossless PNG image. The PDF keeps the full pixel size of the photo, so the file can be larger than the HEIC originals.

Location data and other HEIC metadata are not copied into the PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Which files can I add?

HEIC and HEIF photos from an iPhone or iPad, plus JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images. You can mix formats in one PDF.

How many photos fit in one PDF?

Up to 80 images per PDF, each up to 150 MB. Very large photos take longer to decode and make a larger PDF.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Decoding and PDF creation run in your browser. The photos stay on your device.

Why is the PDF larger than my HEIC files?

HEIC uses very efficient compression. The PDF stores each photo as a lossless PNG image, which needs more space. Run the PDF through Compress PDF afterwards if needed.

Can I change the orientation of the pages?

Yes, for A4 and US Letter pages. With Fit, each page takes the size and orientation of its photo. Use the rotate button to turn a single photo.
