Action Capture
Record a workflow as pre-click screenshots with automatic titles, cursor overlays, and click markers.
Updated November 2, 2026

Action Capture records a task click by click instead of on a timer. This page covers choosing a target, deciding which clicks count, building step titles, and setting the visual annotations.

For each accepted click, Temposhot saves the target as it looked just before the click. It also stores where the click happened and which control was clicked. When the run finishes, this data becomes the page title, cursor and click marker of each step in a Document.
Action Capture needs Screen Recording and Accessibility permission. Open it from the sidebar or press Command+3.
Choose a capture target
Start
Select Start Action Capture. Choose Capture Target opens.
Pick a target
Choose one of the four targets in the table below.
Confirm the source
For Full Screen or Specific Window, select the display or window in the picker. For Capture Area, draw or resize the region, then select Start Action Capture in the overlay.
| Target | Each step shows |
|---|---|
| Active Window | The window that received the click; it can change between steps |
| Full Screen | One selected display |
| Specific Window | One selected app window for the whole run |
| Capture Area | One selected rectangle of the screen |
Configure accepted clicks
Select Configure before a run to open Configure Action Capture. Settings are saved on the Mac and reused for later runs.
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Mouse click capture | Capture every mouse click, Capture only while a key is held, Skip clicks while a key is held, or Don't capture mouse clicks |
| Manual capture shortcut | Adds a step without a click; default Shift+Command+2, and any other combination can be recorded |
| Show cursor in shortcut captures | Includes the current pointer in steps added with the shortcut |
| Capture outside clicks | For Specific Window and Capture Area: a click outside the target still captures the target |
| Include toolbar in captures | Keeps the floating Action Capture toolbar visible in saved steps, for example in a Temposhot bug report |
Temposhot ignores clicks that follow each other too closely, so one interaction does not produce duplicate steps.
Build automatic page titles
Turn on Parse clicked elements to read the name of the clicked control through macOS Accessibility.
| Field | Used when | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Page title - parsed | The control has a readable name | Click "[[element-name]]" |
| Page title - not parsed | No readable name is available | Click here |
[[element-name]] is replaced with the control name. How much the title can include depends on the Accessibility data the target app exposes.
Add visual annotations
Visual Annotations are added to each step when the work becomes a Document. They do not change the original screenshots and stay editable.
- Show cursor on click captures: Mac Pointer, Minimal Arrow, Touch Dot or Crosshair, in Small, Medium or Large.
- Mark clicked area: Circle or Rectangle in Small, Medium or Large, with a border color and a background color. The marker also appears on steps added with the manual shortcut.
- Reset restores the default annotation settings.
The preview in the dialog shows the cursor and marker before you record.
