Export captures
Export selected capture frames as ZIP, PNG or JPG images, searchable PDF, or MP4.
Updated November 2, 2026

Capture exports turn the frames of one session into files: a ZIP archive, single images, a searchable PDF, a video or an animated GIF. Every export uses only the frames that are currently selected.

When a run ends, the results pane shows Capture complete with a thumbnail for each frame. Use Select all or the checkbox on each thumbnail; export buttons stay disabled until at least one frame is selected. Capture History works the same way for older sessions.
| Format | Where | Result |
|---|---|---|
| ZIP | Results pane, Capture History | One archive with the original selected frames |
| Images: PNG | Results pane, Capture History | One lossless PNG per frame |
| Images: JPG | Results pane, Capture History | One compressed JPG per frame |
| Results pane, Capture History | One searchable PDF with the frames in order | |
| MP4 | Results pane | One H.264 video |
| GIF | Export settings…, Capture History | One animated GIF |
| WebP | Export settings… | One WebP file per frame |
If a file with the same name already exists, Temposhot adds a number to the new file name. The earlier file is not overwritten.
Export images
Open the image choices
Select Images in the export bar.
Pick a format
Choose PNG Export (Lossless) for sharp interface text and transparency. Choose JPG Export (Adjustable Quality) for smaller files.
JPG and WebP quality is set in Export settings… under JPEG / WebP quality. The default is 85 percent.
Export ZIP
ZIP packs the selected frames into one archive without merging them. Use it to hand over the full image set or to store a run as a single file.
Export a searchable PDF
PDF combines the selected frames in order and runs OCR on them. The resulting text layer can be searched and copied in PDF viewers that support it.
This is different from exporting a Document, which renders pages with titles, descriptions, framing and annotations. See Export a Document.
Export MP4
MP4 builds a video from the selected frames in order. Frame rate and quality are set in Export settings…:
- Video frames per second: 5, 10, 15, 24, 30 or 60 fps (default 15).
- Video quality: High (default), Medium or Low.
A low frame rate holds each step on screen longer. A high frame rate gives a smoother timelapse.
Export settings, GIF and WebP
Right-click the export bar in the results pane and choose Export settings…. The sheet contains:
- Include page titles and descriptions (on by default).
- JPEG / WebP quality: 25, 50, 75, 85, 95 or 100 percent.
- Video frames per second and Video quality for MP4.
- GIF frame delay: 0.04, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 or 1 second per frame (default 0.1).
- Export PNG, Export JPG, Export PDF, Export ZIP · original unedited files, Export MP4, Export GIF and Export WebP.
Export WebP is listed only when a WebP encoder is available on the Mac. Select Close to return to the results pane.
Export location and Auto Export
All exports go to the Export path in Settings > General. Open Export Folder in the results pane shows that folder in Finder.
Auto Export (Save as you go) writes each frame as PNG or JPG while Auto Capture or Website Capture runs. It does not apply to Action Capture, which keeps its steps for the Document it creates. See General and History settings.
