macOS permissions

Give Temposhot access to capture the screen, focus windows, send keypresses, and monitor clicks.

Updated November 2, 2026

Temposhot needs two macOS permissions: Screen Recording and Accessibility. This page explains what each one enables, how to grant it, and what to do when the status does not update.

Temposhot checks both permissions at launch and again before each capture. When access is missing, the Permissions Required dialog lists both rows with a status of Required or Granted. Capture cannot start until the required rows show Granted.

Screen Recording

Screen Recording lets Temposhot read the pixels of a display or window. Without it, the source list can be empty or the selected source cannot be read.

Grant Screen Recording

  1. Open the dialog

    Select Grant Permission in the banner, or open a capture source picker. Permissions Required opens.

  2. Open System Settings

    Select Open System Settings in the Screen Recording row. macOS opens Privacy & Security at the Screen Recording list.

  3. Turn on Temposhot

    Enable Temposhot in the list.

  4. Confirm the status

    Switch back to Temposhot and select Refresh Status. The row changes to Granted.

Accessibility

Accessibility lets Temposhot act on other apps. It covers three tasks:

  • pressing the key set in Key press after each screenshot;
  • bringing a selected app window to the front before Auto Capture starts;
  • detecting clicks and reading control names during Action Capture.

Use the same dialog. Select Open System Settings in the Accessibility row, enable Temposhot, return to the app, and select Refresh Status.

Continue after granting access

When both rows show Granted, select Continue. If the dialog interrupted a source picker or the custom area picker, open that picker again.

When the status does not change

macOS sometimes shows the switch as on while Temposhot still reports the permission as missing.

  1. In System Settings, turn the Temposhot switch off and on again.
  2. Return to Temposhot and select Refresh Status.
  3. If the row still shows Required, quit Temposhot and open it again.

When a window cannot be focused

After the countdown, Temposhot tries to bring the selected window to the front. If macOS blocks the focus change, a message asks you to click the target window. Click the window; Temposhot waits briefly and then continues the run.

Permission banner

While a permission is missing, a banner stays at the top of the app until you dismiss it. Its Grant Permission button opens the System Settings panel for the first missing permission. After changing the setting, use Refresh Status in Permissions Required to update the status.
