How to Automate Website Screenshots Without Code

Choose a no-code way to automate website screenshots: URL-list capture, an automation platform with a screenshot API, monitoring tools, or browser helpers.

Website Capture of three URLs with four concurrent browsers

Scripted tools such as Playwright and Puppeteer capture web pages well, but they need Node.js, a code editor and someone to maintain the script. Marketers, designers, QA leads and researchers often need the same images without that setup. Four groups of no-code tools cover most of these jobs.

Pick the job before you pick the tool

Three questions narrow the choice quickly:

  1. How many pages? One page, a list of 20, or several hundred.
  2. How often? Once, on demand when something changes, or on a fixed schedule.
  3. What happens next? A folder of images, a PDF for a client, an alert when a page changes, or a file sent to another app.

A one-off capture of a single page needs nothing more than the browser. A daily capture of 50 pages with change alerts needs a hosted service. Most real jobs sit between the two.

Option 1: URL-list capture tools

A URL-list tool takes a pasted list, loads each page in a browser, and saves one image per URL. On a Mac, Temposhot Website Capture works this way and runs entirely on your computer.

Website Capture of three URLs with four concurrent browsers
  1. Paste the list

Open Website Capture with Command+2, select Bulk insert, and paste one URL per line.

  2. Pick the layout

Choose Desktop 1920×1080, Tablet 768×1024 or Mobile 390×844, and Viewport or Full page.

  3. Set when to capture

Keep Load as the wait for most sites. Use Network idle plus a delay of a few seconds for pages that fill in content late.

  4. Run and export

Select Start Capture. When rows show Capture complete, export the set as ZIP, Images, PDF or MP4.

Rows can carry their own settings, so one slow page can wait longer without changing the rest. Up to 10 browsers run at once, with 4 as the default. Cookie banners are handled on a best-effort basis with four modes: Reject banners, Accept minimal, Hide only and Leave unchanged.

This group fits on-demand batches of public pages. It does not run on a schedule while the Mac is off.

Option 2: Automation platforms plus a screenshot API

General automation platforms connect apps through triggers and actions. Paired with a screenshot API, they can capture a page when a row is added to a spreadsheet, a form is submitted or a scheduled trigger fires. The image then moves on to cloud storage, a chat channel or a database.

This route needs no code in the usual sense, but it does need an account with each service, an API key, and some care with field mapping. Pricing for both the platform and the API usually depends on volume. Check each vendor's current plan page before building on it.

Option 3: website monitoring tools

Website monitoring services capture pages on a schedule and compare each capture with the previous one. When the difference passes a threshold, they send an alert. Some keep an archive of every capture.

These tools answer "did this page change" rather than "give me a folder of screenshots". They suit price tracking, compliance checks and competitor pages. The pages, the schedule and the images live on the vendor's servers.

Option 4: browser extensions and one-off helpers

Every major browser can save at least one page without extra software:

  • Chrome and Edge DevTools. Open DevTools, open the command menu with Shift+Command+P, and run "Capture full size screenshot".
  • Firefox. Right-click the page, choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page.
  • Safari. Choose File, then Export as PDF to save the page as a PDF.

Full-page extensions add a toolbar button that scrolls, captures and joins the page into one image. The free Temposhot Full Page Screenshot extension for Chrome 116 or later stitches the viewports locally at Retina resolution and downloads one PNG.

These helpers work inside your own browser session, so signed-in pages are no problem. They handle one tab per action.

After capture, the Image Converter changes PNG to JPG or WebP, and the Stitch Screenshots joins separate screenshots into one tall image. Both run in the browser without uploading files.

When code is still the better option

No-code tools stop being the shorter path when:

  • screenshots must run inside a CI pipeline on every deploy
  • each page needs scripted steps first, such as filling a form or opening a menu
  • the output must follow a strict naming or storage scheme
  • the capture is one step of a test suite, for example a visual regression test

For those cases, start with How to automate website screenshots with Playwright.

FAQ

Can I capture pages that need a login without code?

Use a browser helper or the extension, since they run in your signed-in browser. URL-list tools that use their own browsers capture what a signed-out visitor sees.

Are no-code screenshots lower quality than scripted ones?

Not inherently. Both load the page in a real browser engine. Quality depends on viewport size, wait timing and image format, which most no-code tools expose as settings.

Do I need to keep the Mac awake for a URL-list run?

Yes, for a local tool. Website Capture runs in managed browsers on the Mac, so keep the app open until every row finishes.
