Screenshot Automation
What screenshot automation is, how it differs from manual capture and screen recording, and where teams use it.
Screenshot automation is any method that captures screenshots without a person triggering each image by hand. The trigger can be a fixed interval, a simulated key press, a mouse click, a list of URLs, or a step in a test script.
Common forms include interval capture, which saves the screen every few seconds for a set count or duration. Key-driven capture pairs each screenshot with a key press, such as Right Arrow to turn a page. Click capture saves an image when the user clicks. URL batch capture loads many web pages and saves one image per page. Scripted capture uses libraries such as Playwright or Puppeteer.
Screenshot automation vs manual capture and screen recording
Manual capture gives full control over each image but becomes slow and inconsistent past a few dozen shots. Screen recording captures everything as video but produces large files that cannot be searched, printed or annotated page by page. Automation produces individual still images with consistent size and naming, ready for PDF, OCR or a step guide.
Where screenshot automation is used
- Saving pages of documents and course material for personal offline use, where the license allows it.
- Capturing dozens of web pages at several device sizes for QA.
- Building step-by-step guides from clicks in an app.
- Recording timelapses of long work sessions.
How screenshot automation works
Temposhot covers three forms:
- Auto Capture (Command+1) repeats save screenshot, send key, wait interval until the Screenshots, Duration or End time stop condition is met.
- Website Capture (Command+2) captures a URL list with 1 to 10 Concurrent browsers.
- Action Capture (Command+3) saves the target just before each accepted click.
Common mistakes with screenshot automation
- Setting an interval shorter than the time the app needs to render the next page.
- Starting without a countdown and capturing the wrong window.
- Using automation on content you do not have the right to copy, or on DRM-protected content, which cannot be captured.
Taking the same screenshots again and again?
Save the setup as a preset and run it in one click next time. See automated capture.
Common questions
Is screenshot automation the same as a macro?
No. A macro replays input. Screenshot automation focuses on saving images, and may send a key between captures.
Does it work with any app?
It captures what is visible on screen. Apps that block screen capture and DRM-protected content appear blank.

Taking the same screenshots again and again?
Temposhot captures a screen, window or area on a timer and exports the set as a PDF, images, ZIP or MP4. The free browser tools fix single images.
