Website Capture of three URLs with four concurrent browsers

Capturing 30 pages by hand means 30 rounds of open, wait, scroll and save. A batch run takes the URL list once, loads each page in a local browser, and saves one image per URL. This post walks through a batch in Temposhot Website Capture and the settings that keep the results consistent.

What is the website crawler?

A web crawler starts from one address and follows links to discover more pages. Website Capture does not do that. It captures exactly the URLs in its list, one frame per row, and never follows links on its own.

That makes the output predictable. A list of 40 URLs produces at most 40 frames, and every frame maps to a row you entered. To capture a whole site, export its page list first (from a sitemap file, a CMS or an analytics report), then paste that list into Website Capture.

Each frame is saved in a single session in Capture History. A batch can be exported again later without loading the pages a second time.

Capture your first URL batch

  1. Open Website Capture

Select Website Capture in the sidebar or press Command+2.

  2. Add the URLs

Select Bulk insert, paste one URL per line, and select Insert URLs. Duplicate lines are skipped. Bare domains such as example.com get https:// added. Only HTTP and HTTPS addresses are accepted. To add one more page, type in the last row and press Enter.

  3. Set the defaults

Pick a Device (Desktop 1920×1080, Tablet 768×1024 or Mobile 390×844) and an Area (Viewport or Full page). Choose a wait condition and an image format.

  4. Override single rows

Open a row's settings when one page needs a different wait or device. Select Render preview to check the result before the run.

  5. Choose concurrency and start

Set Concurrent browsers between 1 and 10 (default 4), then select Start Capture.

Each row moves through its own states: Capture pending, Capturing, then Capture complete or Capture failed. One failed row does not stop the rest.

For a responsive check, run the same list twice: once at Mobile and once at Desktop. Keeping one device per batch makes the frames easier to compare.

Large batch limits

Website Capture runs on your Mac, so memory and CPU set the practical limits. Concurrent browsers controls how many pages load at once. The default of 4 is a reasonable starting point, and higher values finish sooner at the cost of more memory.

Other limits to plan around:

  • Pages that need a signed-in session capture as a signed-out visitor sees them. Website Capture works best on public pages.
  • Some sites refuse automated browsers. Those rows end as Capture failed.
  • A run that is stopped keeps every completed frame, and the session shows Cancelled.
  • A run with both completed and failed rows shows Partial.

Splitting a list of several hundred URLs into batches of 50 to 100 keeps each session easy to review and retry.

Improve batch captures

A batch is only useful for comparison when every page was captured the same way. Keep device, area, wait, delay and blocking identical across rows unless a page needs an exception.

  1. Wait. Load suits most sites. Network idle helps pages that fetch content after load, and a delay of 1 to 3 seconds covers animations.
  2. Lazy images. If a full-page frame shows blank image areas, switch that row to Network idle and add a short delay. The lazy loading entry explains the cause.
  3. Cookie banners. Choose Reject banners, Accept minimal, Hide only or Leave unchanged. Handling is best effort, so check the preview on sites with custom consent tools.
  4. Format. JPEG is the default. Use PNG when small text must stay sharp, or WebP for smaller files. Quality 1 to 100 applies to JPEG and WebP.
  5. Blocking. Block ads and Block trackers are on by default. Turn one off for a row whose layout depends on a blocked script.

The capture options guide lists every per-URL setting.

FAQ

How many URLs can one batch hold?

The URL list has no fixed maximum. The practical limit is the time one run takes and how easy the session is to review afterwards.

Can I retry only the pages that failed?

Yes. Each failed or cancelled row shows a Retry control, and it can run before the other rows finish. The runs and results guide lists every row state.

What formats can I export?

The results pane exports ZIP, Images, PDF and MP4. The PDF is searchable, with text recognized by OCR.

Does it capture pages behind a login?

Website Capture loads pages in managed local browsers, not your everyday browser profile. For a signed-in page, use the Temposhot extension in Chrome, which saves one full-page PNG of the active tab.

Start a batch capture

Paste five URLs you check often into Website Capture and run them at the default concurrency of 4. Then compare Viewport and Full page on one row with Render preview before running a longer list.

Need no-code website screenshot automation?

The website screenshot automation page shows what Website Capture does, and the Website Capture quick start covers the first run. Temposhot is free to download for Apple Silicon Macs.
