Screenshot Template
What a screenshot template is, how reusable capture settings save time, and common mistakes.
A screenshot template is a saved set of options that is applied each time a similar capture is made. It removes the need to configure the same source, size, timing and output by hand for every session.
The term has two common meanings. A capture template stores how screenshots are taken: the source area, its dimensions, the interval, the stop condition and the output format. A layout template stores how screenshots are presented: a background, a device frame, captions and a fixed canvas size for app store or social images. Both aim at the same result: consistent images that match earlier ones.
Why templates matter
Consistency matters when images are compared, combined or published as a set. A guide where every screenshot has a different size and crop looks unfinished. A weekly capture of a dashboard is only comparable if each run uses the same area. Templates also cut setup time for repeated tasks to one click.
What a template includes
- Source: a screen, a window or a fixed area with exact pixel size.
- Timing: interval, countdown and stop condition.
- Input: a key to send between captures, such as Right Arrow.
- Output: format, quality and export destination.
- Presentation: frame, background, captions and page layout.
Templates vs manual setup
Manual setup is flexible and fine for one-off captures. It also invites small differences between runs: a slightly different area, a forgotten countdown, a wrong format. A template fixes those values. The trade-off is maintenance: when the target app or page changes, the template needs an update.
Common mistakes
- Saving a template with an area tied to one display, then using another display.
- Keeping an old template after the target layout changed.
- Naming templates vaguely, so the right one is hard to find.
Taking the same screenshots again and again?
Temposhot Auto Capture includes Kindle, Quick Demo and Timelapse presets, and Save Preset stores your own stop condition, interval, key press and countdown. Custom Area offers size presets such as 16:9 1600×900 and 9:16 900×1600. See capture presets.
Common questions
Does a preset include the capture source?
In Temposhot, applying a preset clears the source, so you pick the screen, window or area each time.
Can I reuse PDF layout settings?
The PDF dialog (Pro) sets paper size, orientation, cover page and step numbers for document export.

Taking the same screenshots again and again?
Temposhot captures a screen, window or area on a timer and exports the set as a PDF, images, ZIP or MP4. The free browser tools fix single images.
