Website Capture of three URLs with four concurrent browsers

macOS can take a screenshot of anything on screen with Shift+Command+5, but each capture is manual and covers only what is visible. Automatic website screenshots load pages and save images without a person scrolling and clicking for each one. On a Mac, Temposhot offers two ways to do this, and the right one depends on where the page lives.

When to use automatic website screenshots

Automation pays off once the same capture work repeats:

  • more than about ten pages in one sitting
  • the same set of pages captured again after each release or campaign
  • pages that must be captured at the same size and timing for a fair comparison
  • long pages where manual scrolling and stitching takes several minutes each

For one page, once, a browser tool or the Temposhot extension is faster to reach.

Browser window or URL-based capture

Best forPublic pages in bulkOne long page, or pages that need a login

URL-based capture loads each address in a managed browser and saves one image per URL. It handles many pages in parallel but sees each page as a signed-out visitor.

Browser window capture records the browser window you already have open. Auto Capture saves a frame, sends a key such as Page Down, waits for the interval, and repeats. It works with any page you can see, including signed-in dashboards. Key press automation requires Temposhot Pro.

From a URL list

  1. Open Website Capture

Press Command+2. Select Bulk insert and paste one URL per line.

  2. Choose size and area

Pick Desktop 1920×1080, Tablet 768×1024 or Mobile 390×844. Choose Full page for archives or Viewport for above-the-fold checks.

  3. Set the wait

Keep Load for most sites. Choose Network idle with a delay of 1 to 3 seconds for pages that fill in content late.

  4. Run

Set Concurrent browsers (1 to 10, default 4) and select Start Capture. Export the session as ZIP, Images, PDF or MP4.

From an open browser window

  1. Prepare the page

Open the page in your browser and scroll to the top.

  2. Set Auto Capture

Press Command+1. Set Stop condition to Screenshots and enter the number of screens the page needs. Set Interval to 1 second and record Page Down as the Key press.

  3. Choose the window

Under Windows, select the browser window thumbnail, then select Start Capture. Click the browser during the 3-second countdown so it receives the key presses.

The automated capture guide explains every Auto Capture setting.

Common uses

  1. Site audits. Capture every page in a sitemap at Desktop and Mobile, then review them in one PDF.
  2. Redesign records. Capture the old site before launch and the new one after, with identical settings.
  3. Competitor tracking. Capture a fixed list of landing pages each month and keep the sessions in Capture History.
  4. Client reports. Export a batch as PDF so the client can scroll through the pages without opening a browser.
  5. Signed-in dashboards. Use Auto Capture on the browser window to record a long report page.

Can website screenshots run on a schedule?

Not in Temposhot. Both Website Capture and Auto Capture start when you select Start Capture and run while the app is open. There is no cloud scheduler, no hosted archive and no change alert.

For recurring checks, there are two common routes. A hosted website monitoring service runs captures on its servers on a fixed schedule. A script with Playwright or Puppeteer can run from launchd or a CI job. If a monthly manual run is enough, keeping one saved URL list and running it on the first of each month is the simplest option. The Stillio alternatives post compares scheduled services.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing devices in one batch. Compare Desktop to Desktop. Run a separate batch for Mobile.
  • Waiting for Network idle everywhere. Some pages never stop sending requests and the row fails. Use Load first.
  • Skipping the preview. Select Render preview on one row before a long run to catch cookie banners and blank image areas.
  • Too many concurrent browsers. If rows fail with memory errors, lower Concurrent browsers to 2 and retry.
  • Leaving the browser in the background during Auto Capture. The key press goes to the frontmost app.

FAQ

What image formats does Website Capture save?

JPEG by default, plus PNG and WebP. Quality from 1 to 100 applies to JPEG and WebP.

It tries. The modes are Reject banners, Accept minimal, Hide only and Leave unchanged, and handling is best effort.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Pages load in browsers on your Mac, and captures stay on the Mac. No account is needed.

Does it work on Intel Macs?

No. Temposhot requires an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later.
