JPG and WebP at a glance

TransparencyNo; transparent areas become whiteYes
CompressionLossy, small files for photosLossy or lossless, usually 25–35% smaller than JPG

The browser decodes JPG directly. Converting does not restore detail that JPG compression already removed.

WebP keeps transparency. The quality slider runs from 10% to 100%; lower values make smaller files.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The JPG files are decoded and saved as WebP in your browser. They stay on your device.
