How to Read McGraw Hill eBooks Offline with ReadAnywhere

Use ReadAnywhere for offline chapters, then export your notes or use the official Self-Print PDF option when your McGraw Hill eBook supports it.

McGraw Hill eBooks open in a browser reader, often from a course in Connect or a similar platform. ReadAnywhere is McGraw Hill's app for reading those eBooks offline on a phone, tablet or computer. It downloads chapters for reading and syncs your notes when you reconnect.

What ReadAnywhere downloads

ReadAnywhere downloads eBook content for reading inside the app. You can usually choose the whole book or selected chapters, which helps on devices with little storage. Highlights, notes and bookmarks you make in the app sync with your McGraw Hill account.

It does not download course assignments, quizzes or adaptive learning activities. Those stay in the course platform and need a connection.

Download the eBook or selected chapters

  1. Install and sign in

Install ReadAnywhere from your device's app store and sign in with the McGraw Hill account you use for your course.

  2. Open the book

Select the eBook from your library. If several courses use different books, check the edition.

  3. Choose what to download

Download the full book, or select only the chapters you will read offline. Stay on Wi-Fi until each download finishes.

Test the exact work you plan to do

Turn on airplane mode and do a short version of the real task. Open the chapter, highlight a sentence, add a note, look at a figure and search for a term. If something fails offline, you will know before the trip, not during it.

Also check that embedded media you rely on, such as videos, works offline. Many media items need a connection.

Reconnect carefully after offline study

Offline notes and highlights live on that device until ReadAnywhere syncs. When you are back online, open the app and wait for the sync to finish before you sign out, delete chapters or switch devices. Then check the browser reader for your latest notes.

If you used two devices offline, sync them one at a time.

Save your own notes and highlights as PDF

Your notes are your study work and worth keeping outside the app. Where the reader offers a notes view with print or export, use it, then choose PDF and Save as PDF in the macOS print dialog. Add the book title, edition and date at the top of the saved file.

Do this before your course access ends. See export online textbook highlights and notes for a full checklist.

Check whether your eBook offers Self-Print

Some McGraw Hill eBooks include a Self-Print option, which produces a PDF of selected pages or chapters for printing. Availability depends on the title and how you got access. Look for it in the eBook's menu in the browser reader, and read the conditions shown with it.

When Self-Print is offered, it is the official way to get pages as a PDF. Keep the output for personal study.

Why the offline download is not a PDF

ReadAnywhere stores downloads in its own protected format so they open only in the app and only while your access is active. You will not find a PDF in Finder. This is normal for licensed eBooks and is not a fault.

Troubleshooting

  • Book missing in ReadAnywhere. Sign in with the same account linked to your course, then refresh the library.
  • Download stalls. Free up storage and retry on a stable connection.
  • Notes not showing in the browser. Open ReadAnywhere online and let it sync.
  • Chapter will not open offline. Open it once online to finish the download, then retest.
  • Access ended. Course access usually ends with the course dates. Check your account.

If you need selected material outside the app

Start with Self-Print where available, then the notes view. If neither covers what you need, ask your instructor whether a print edition or a course pack is available.

For your own notes view, or material your instructor confirms you may capture, open Auto Capture, choose a Windows or Custom Area source, and export PDF for a searchable PDF. The capture sources guide explains how to frame only the part you need.
